Bitcoin goes beyond just the future of money.

In some parts of the world, Bitcoin powers thriving economic hubs today as a Medium of Exchange. Very few places exemplify this as well as Berlín, El Salvador.
Amidst the depths of the brutal bear market in early 2023, two Salvadoreños took inspiration from the world-famous Bitcoin Beach project, and started a new circular economy in a mountain town with eight times the population of El Zonte.
The results have been extraordinary.
Berlín already had a solid economic foundation as an agricultural hub, powered by a geothermal energy plant (which also mines Bitcoin), with a pleasant climate above the beaches up in coffee country.
The Bitcoin Berlín project has integrated naturally into this local economic hub over the past two years. As you can see on BTC Map’s leaderboard, Berlín now has 164 local merchants who accept Bitcoin, and thousands of individuals who use it as a Medium of Exchange.
Economía Bitcoin exists to showcase what’s working so well in Berlín, and to share that toolkit for successfully scaling adoption of Bitcoin as money throughout Bitcoin Country and beyond!
Specifically, our conference features engaging discourse in an intimate setting with pioneers of circular economies and builders of the tools that power them.
Last year’s debut event gathered 223 attendees and 30 speakers focused on four main pillars of Bitcoin Economies: education, entrepreneurship, technology, and community.
